The Seeds of Revolution
Garm bel Iblis
Senator Garm bel Iblis of Corellia was a prominent opponent of Chancellor Palpatine in the waning years of the Republic. He spoke strongly against Palpatine’s gathering of power to himself during the Clone Wars and invoked ancient and obscure laws to keep Corellia from being involved. After the Declaration of a New Order, bel Iblis remained in the Imperial Senate, speaking strongly against Palpatine’s policies. After his wife and children were murdered by Imperial Intelligence, bel Iblis went into hiding, becoming the head of a large private army mostly comprised of defectors from Corellia’s planetary defense forces.
He remains in contact with Mon Mothma and Bail Organa.
Mon Mothma, Imperial Senator from Chandrila and a personal friend of both Padme Amidala and Bail Organa, openly speaks out against the Emperor, frequently bringing her to the attentions of Imperial Intelligence and COMPNOR. Palpatine himself has ordered the Imperial Security Bureau to investigate her several times. Because of this scrutiny, Mon Mothma is unable to engage in covert activity against the Empire. This doesn’t stop Mothma, who holds a deep personal conviction that change can still be effected through the system itself. She frequently meets with colleagues on Coruscant to discuss what measures can be taken, and uses senatorial privilege, political alliances, and officially sanctioned methods to attempt to reform the New Order. Palpatine would crack down on her, but she is wildly popular and her status as a senator in a very important Core system means that it is easier to watch and wait for her to slip up first.
Bail Prestor Organa (formally styled as His Serene Highness, Prince Bail Organa, First Chairman and Viceroy of Alderaan) is outwardly one of the most loyal Imperial senators. It is not well known that he funds many independent covert cells of resistance against the Empire as well as feeding them information and weapons useful to their causes. Organa always feeds the money and supplies through layers of dummy corporations to throw off the scent. As a result of his secrecy, most of the activity encouraged by Organa ends up being blamed by the Emperor’s supporters on Mon Mothma, which privately amuses the pair to no end.
Rumors abound that he is in contact with rogue Jedi, but few people believe them.
